URBAN DESIGN

THE PROJECT

The idea was to put on the spotlight an abandoned area in the center of Athens where ancient ruins were discovered but there was no attempt from the municipality to highlight them. It was an important ancient tomb, which only few know as no information was provided on the site.

Through my design, having as an initial idea the Nolli map, I created these surfaces that arise from the uncovered parts of the surrounding buildings, with which the visitor can interact in various ways as well as read useful information written on them. The symbolism behind the choice of these folded shapes indicates that an area is the result of the different uses made in the buildings which lead to the identity of the space today. Therefore, preserving the historicity of a place has a much greater value as it seems.
